Weekly Newsletter 1

After an exciting few weeks, the Virginia General Assembly was able to convene without hinder this past Wednesday, January 10th.

The two pending recounts finally concluded, and both Republicans, Delegate Yancey and Delegate Thomas, were declared the official winners of their elections. Delegate Yancey’s race generated nationwide newsafter it was decided that the winner should be determined by a drawing of names from a bowl, which you can watch here.  With victories for both Yancey and Thomas, the Republicans will continue to hold the majority in both the House of Delegates and the Senate.

When the House of Delegates met for the first time on Wednesday, we elected our new Speaker, Delegate Kirk Cox (R-Colonial Heights). Additionally, the House unanimously passed a rules package which requires the House to utilize electronic voting equipment to record votes in committee and subcommittee. If you are interested in watching, The House will also live stream all committee meetings.
